Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. has played a key role in the development of our community for more than a century. Founded in 1870 as a kama`aina company, A&B's business activities can be traced to its initial venture; growing sugarcane. This, in turn, led to the company's involvement in ocean transportation, real estate and other agricultural endeavors. A&B now owns 93,000 acres in Hawaii, and they continue to grow sugar to this day on 37,000 acres on Maui. Growing coffee on 3,500 acres on Kauai was their next successful mission. Through its real estate activities on Maui, then Kauai, the Big Island and Oahu, A&B has enabled generations of Hawaii's people to enjoy the benefits and security of fee-simple home ownership. Today, A&B's property development involves numerous residential, retail and industrial properties across the islands - including Keola La'i.
